Our Review
We downloaded, installed,
and tested
DVD X Platinum to run on two test computers. One
computer was "Home-Brewed" with an Athlon AMD 64 X2 4800 Dual-Core
processor running at 2.4GHz, 1GB of memory, 100GB hard drive, and a
Sony DRU-510A DVD/RW drive 32X (CD) and 12X (DVD). The other computer,
a Gateway E06500D, with an Intel Pentium(R) running at 3GHz, 1GB of
memory, 100GB hard drive, and a Plextor PX-708A DVD/RW drive (40X (CD)
and 12X (DVD).
Test Results
The installation was
flawless on both test computers. The original DVD movie to be tested was "Spiderman" (2002) starring
Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst. The movie runtime was
121 minutes.
Upon inserting the DVD movie and
launching
DVD X Platinum
we were presented with the error dialog windows shown
below.
We visited the
DVD X Platinum
website at
http://www.dvdxsoftware.com/support.asp for support and found we
had to provide a license ID, password, where software was purchased
from before we could begin to ask for support. We felt this was not
good for those who were evaluating the trial version.
We also searched the Internet for answers
and discovered that many people were having problems with DVD X
Platinum. Suggestions were offered to install third-party decrypters
or defragmenting the hard drive. None of these suggestions worked for
us on either of our test computers.
We learned that
DVD X Platinum
cannot copy the newer DVD authored with enhanced DVD Copy protection.
DVD X Platinum
will copy the older DVDs with no problem.
This raised another question in our minds as to why sell a product
such as this for $119 and it DOES NOT copy the newer DVDs? Why
should anyone purchase such a product when there are far superior
products such as
1Click DVD Copy 5
or
1Click DVD Copy Pro
THAT WILL copy the old as well as the newer DVDs at almost half
the purchase price?

Initial Graphical User Interface

Error 1

Error 2

Error 3
At this point we halted further testing
for the following reasons:
-
A software package this pricey should not
be as error prone.
-
The application cannot copy the newer
copy-protected DVDs.
-
There are newer, cheaper, and far more
powerful DVD copy software packages out there, such as 1Click DVD Copy
Pro that are virtually error free.
-
The customer support website offered no
immediate help.
-
Vendor website is misleading. Not
forthcoming about inability of this product to copy newer DVDs.
-
Many users experiencing same problems
We will revisit
DVD X Platinum
when these annoyances have been corrected
and provide a thorough test and review. At the present time we would
not recommend purchasing this product.

Pros
DVD X Platinum
has an attractive Graphical User
Interface and had great feature set (for non-encrypted older DVDs).
Cons
DVD X Platinum
cannot copy the newer copy-protected DVDs.
Quality of Copy
Inconclusive
Customer/Technical Support
Not good! The support website contained
nothing of value for technical support other than a form one had to
fill out requiring proof of purchase and license information before
support could be offered. This does not help one who wishes to
download the trial version for evaluation.
Summary
If you are looking for a
DVD Movie Copy software application that copies the newer
copy-protected DVDs, then we DO NOT recommend
DVD X Platinum.
Your money is best spend on newer, more
powerful, and less expensive DVD Copy software applications such as
#1 and #2
picks
1Click DVD Copy Pro and
1Click DVD Copy 5
respectively. If you do decide to purchase
DVD X Platinum
for whatever reason, please read the
vendor website very carefully to see what you are getting before
you purchase. Or, you can just trust us. : )
